SHEER Delight For Petroplus

The employees of a County Durham Information Systems consultancy are celebrating after completing an important piece of work for Teesside oil refining storage and marketing company Petroplus.

Xenosys Ltd has designed and implemented a web services database application to enable everyone at Petroplus to record, store and locate important health and safety information.

Christened SHEER (Safety, Health and Environment Event Recording) the new system will provide users with a simpler and more flexible means of recording the data.

The information, which can be audited by the Health and Safety Executive and HM Customs and Excise, will enhance the safe and successful operation of the refinery, located at North Tees.

“It ensures the right information gets sent to the right person at the right time,”

said Xenosys Managing Director Gary Atkinson. Going live in October, the system was designed, tested and installed in just over three months and has brought Petroplus some significant benefits.

Alister Walgate, the Petroplus Director of Operations on Teesside, said: “We’re very pleased with Xenosys and the SHEER system. It has been designed with the user very much in mind and will play an important part in ensuring good communication within the business as we move forward”.

The new system was designed and built as a proof of concept and has proven so succesful that talks are already underway with regard to further developments. Written using J2EE server technologies and java script automated web pages the system has also been tried succesfully on hand held devices.
